Gingivitis

What is gingivitis?

Gingivitis is an infectious disease of the gums caused by the buildup of dental plaque around the teeth. The bacteria in the plaque cause inflammation, redness, and bleeding of the gums.

Is it possible to control gingivitis?

Yes. With proper oral hygiene and regular visits to the dentist, gingivitis can be controlled. The first treatment includes a professional cleaning of tartar and plaque, after which the patient is given instructions on proper tooth brushing and gum care at home.

Why is it important to treat gingivitis on time?

It is essential to treat gingivitis as soon as possible, as it can progress to a more serious condition called periodontitis. Periodontitis can cause damage and destruction of the alveolar bone, accompanied by tooth loss.

Periodontitis

What is periodontitis?

Periodontitis (also called “periodontitis”) is a chronic inflammatory disease of the gums and supporting tissues of the teeth. It affects about 10% of people in Europe and is one of the main causes of tooth loss, leading to aesthetic and functional problems.

What are the symptoms of periodontitis?
  1. red, bleeding, and swollen gums
  2. bare roots
  3. enlarged interdental spaces
  4. bad breath
  5. bone loss, increased mobility and tooth displacement
What is the goal of periodontitis treatment?

The goal is to preserve the teeth through inflammation control and good oral hygiene.
• professional cleaning of plaque and tartar at least 2 times a year
• for deep pockets – cleaning below the gum level under local anesthesia

What is the patient's role in treating periodontitis?

The active participation of the patient is crucial. Without good daily hygiene and regular check-ups, even the most modern methods are not effective.

What are the expected results after treatment?
  1. Reduction of microorganisms in the oral cavity
  2. Stopping bleeding gums.
  3. Reducing the depth of periodontal pockets.
  4. Stabilization of tooth mobility.
